Activities
The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was organized in November, 1945 as a legal subdivision of the State of Indiana. It was formed as an independent body under and subject only to the Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District Law. The District is responsible for the leadership in conserving and protecting soil and water related resources within Scott County. The District does not have the power to replace or duplicate functions of other local government units.
The Scott County SWCD is run by a five member board, which are all residents of Scott County. The landowners of the county elect three of the supervisors and The State Committee appoints the other two supervisors from recommendations sent by the local District Board. Present supervisors are Chairman John Hardin, Vice-Chairman Joe Robbins, Treasurer Matt Oberlies, Supervisor Bill Comer, and Supervisor Jeff Coomes.
SWCD meetings are held at the Scott County USDA Service Center located at 656 South Boatman Road in Scottsburg, Indiana on the Third Thursday of each month starting at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
