2008 River Friendly Farmer Awarded to Steve Broady

Scott County Soil & Water Conservation District recently nominated Steve Broady of Scottsburg, Indiana for the 2008 River Friendly Farmer Award.  We are pleased to announce that the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts selected him as the recipient of the 2008 Scott County River Friendly Farmer Award.

The statewide initiative recognizes farmers, who through good production management practices helps keep Indiana’s rivers, lakes and streams clean.  Mr. Broady has received this award because he is an excellent example of an agricultural operation that incorporates buffer strips, grass waterways, no-till/conservation tillage methods, erosion control practices, and livestock and crop management practices that protect our water supply. His management practices enhance water quality for drinking, fishing, boating and wildlife.

Mr. Broady will be honored at the Indiana State Fair this year.  The statewide ceremony will be held on Farmers' Day, Wednesday, August 13, at 2 p.m. in the 4-H Exhibit Hall auditorium.  Supervisors, District staff, family and friends are invited to the Indiana State Fair ceremony.  The recipients' day will start earlier with the Farmers’ Day Parade at 10 a.m.  Award winners are invited to ride in the parade as a special way to acknowledge their award.

At the 2009 Scott County SWCD Annual Dinner meeting, Mr. Broady will be awarded a RFF metal sign to display on his property.  Scott County SWCD salutes Steve Broady and his family!  For more information about this and other SWCD programs, please stop by their booth located in the Merchant’s Building.
