Annual Meeting Minutes

“62nd Annual Meeting & Banquet”

Present:  John Hardin, Chairperson; Joe Robbins, Vice-Chairperson; Robert Glenn, Treasurer; Supervisor Matt Oberlies; Supervisor Dennis Wilson; 2003-2006 District Office Manager Ginger Christie; 2007 District Office Manager Judy White; Pat Larr, NRCS District Conservationist; Gerald Roach, WRP Coordinator; Sue Anderson, WRP Assistant; Ed Roll, Indiana State Department of Agriculture; and Laura Fribley, Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

Guests:  Landowners of Scott County; Trooper Marty Mead.  Spouses/Dates/Friends of agencies.

 

The SWCD Annual Meeting held at the Scottsburg High School Commons began at 6:00 p.m. with guests registering for door prizes.  Balloons and hearts set the Red & Pink Valentine theme designed and decorated by Ginger Christie.

 

Welcomes and formal introductions led the evening acknowledging Office Manager Ginger Christie for her years of service with SWCD from 2003 to 2006.  Judy White was introduced as the 2007 Office Manager of SWCD.  Invocation was led by Dennis Wilson.  A delicious dinner was catered by The Rolling Pin and was enjoyed by all.

 

Dennis Wilson gave an overview of the 2007 Supervisor Election.  Dennis advised that Robert Glenn and he would not be renewing their terms. 

 

Matt Oberlies introduced 2007 Supervisor candidate Jeff Coomes.  John Hardin introduced Bill Comer who was appointed by SWCD supervisors as the replacement of Dennis Wilson.

 

Dennis Wilson read the eligibility requirements to hold the position of elected supervisor and asked for nominations from the floor.  No nominations were received.  Joe Robbins made a motion to close nominations.  Robert Glenn seconded the motion.  All were in favor.

 

Guest Speaker Indiana State Trooper Marty Mead gave a PowerPoint presentation on Meth.  Trooper Mead outlined the widespread use, addiction, and the epidemic facing Scott and other counties in Indiana.

 

Ballots were distributed to the public for the election of Jeff Coomes as a SWCD 2007 supervisor.  Robert Glenn announced the unanimous “yes” vote on the election. Scott County Commissioner Robert Tobias followed with the “swearing in” Oath of Office of Bill Comer and Jeff Coomes.

 

Chairperson John Hardin gave recognition and appreciation of outgoing officers Dennis Wilson and Robert Glenn for their years of dedication and service to SWCD.  Both will be greatly missed.   Motion was made by Bill Comer to the floor for the Election of 2007 Officers:  John Hardin Chairperson, Joe Robbins Vice-Chairperson, Matt Oberlies Treasurer.  Jeff Coomes seconded this motion, they were voted and motion carried unanimously.

 

Joe Robbins reported that George Lucas was not present to receive the River Friendly Farmer award.  The River Friendly Farmer award is given for protecting and enhancing Indiana’s rivers, lakes, and streams by using sound cropping and livestock management practices.  Dan Smith was named Indiana Conservation Farmer of the Year by the SWCD Board of Supervisors. Criteria for this award include land being adequately protected, conservation practices used and for community service. 

 

Meeting held during the annual dinner with a motion made by Dennis Wilson for John Hardin, Joe Robbins, and Matt Oberlies to act as bank signatures for SWCD savings and checking accounts.  Such motion was seconded by Bill Comer and unanimously carried.

 

Door prizes were announced by SWCD Supervisors.  Dennis Wilson gave closing comments.

 

John Hardin adjourned the meeting at 8pm.
